( A )
Do you know that you can use your watch as a compass [指南针] on a sunny day? Take a watch and point the hour-hand in the direction [方向] of the sun. Imagine a line which runs from the center of the watch through a point half-way between the hour-hand and number one. This line will surely point south.
If you know astronomy[天文学]a little, you will understand why this works. In the northern half of the earth, the sun is in the south at noon. In Russia, the real noon is one o’clock. If at that time we point the hour-hand at the sun, the hour-hand and number one will point south. That is why you must imagine a line which will run from the center of the watch through a point half-way between the hour-hand and number one. It will point south. If you are in the southern part of our planet, you must point number 12 at the sun. The line which you can imagine between number twelve and the hour-hand will then show south.
66. When we carry out this experiment in the northern part of the earth, we should point ________ at the sun.
A. number 12 B. the minute-hand C. the hour hand D. number one
67. The passage tells us that we can use a watch on a sunny day ________.
A. to study B. to show direction C. to enjoy ourselves D. to keep good time
68. If you are in Australia, which of the following is the right way to show north?

I worked as a waitress for a few months. I was not a great waitress and I worked in a restaurant that served mostly old people who, however, have not learned that ten percent of their expense is no longer a tip that waitresses can live on --- let alone [更不用说] a college student working hard for 20 hours a week!
One night, when I was still working two hours after my shift [轮班] was supposed to finish, all that I wanted was for my last table to clear out so I could clean and go home. My last customer caught me on her way out and asked if I had changed for a twenty. I dug through my pocket and turned out my night’s earnings --- a small amount of $14.
She smiled at me and said, “That is enough.”
My eyes were full of tears as I made the uneven exchange “Thank you,” I said in a low voice.
I heard her little boy ask why she did that and she explained that I’d had a hard night and she just wanted to help me out. I even heard her words, “Reach out your hands when somebody needs help.” I noticed the little boy nodded his head. Not only did her kindness touch my hurried and tiring life, but she also taught her son an important lesson that night.
I do not know her name, but I will always remember her.

The bumpy texture [ 凹凸不平的结构]of walnuts[核桃] is similar to the brain [大脑]. Some Chinese believe eating walnuts will make them clever because of that. By the same logic, they believe eating pig brains will increase their intelligence. This kind of food myth [神话] is true of Americans, too. Some Americans regularly eat uncooked eggs to keep their mind sharp.
Most doctors don’t recommend eating either raw eggs or animal brains. Then, what food is good for your brain? Scientists have found a relationship between diet and a healthy brain. It’s becoming pretty clear that the right food can increase brain power — help you pay attention, keep you active, improve memory, defuse stress, perhaps even stop brain aging.
The health of your brain depends not only on how much (or little) fat you eat but also on what kind it is. Intellectual performance requires the specific [特定的] type of fat found most commonly in certain fish. Besides oily fish, you should introduce lots of dark green leafy vegetables and colorful fruits into your diet. Most people lack the special vitamins that these brain foods provide.
But you won’t do well on your test just because you ate fish the night before. You must eat brain foods regularly.
78. The purpose of the passage is to ________.
A. clear up some food myth B. discuss how to keep healthy
C. explain the importance of our brain D. share some good ways of cooking
79. Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word “defuse” in Paragraph 2?
A. Avoid B. Feel C. Lessen D. Improve
80. Which of the following is needed if people want to strengthen their brain power?
A. Brain — shaped foods B. Uncooked eggs
C. Fat of any kind D. Certain vegetables
81. The author reminds the readers ________.
A. of the importance of tests B. to have brain foods regularly
C. never to eat fish before tests D. of the danger in eating unhealthy food

I’ve loved my mother’s desk since I was just tall enough to see above the top of it as mother sat writing letters. Standing by her chair, looking at the ink bottle, pens and white paper, I decided that the act of writing must be the most wonderful thing in the world.
Years later, during her final illness, mother kept different things for my sister and brother. “But the desk,” she said again, “is for Elizabeth.”
I never saw her anger, never saw her cry. I knew she loved me; she showed it in action. But as a young girl, I wanted heart-to-heart talks between mother and daughter.
They never happened. And a gulf opened between us. I was “too emotional [易动感情的]”. But she lived “on the surface”.
As years passed, I had my won family. I loved my mother and thanked her for our happy family. I wrote to her in careful words and asked her to let me know in any way she chose that she did forgive me.
I posted the letter and waited for her answer, none came.
My hope turned to disappointment, then little interest, and finally peace. It seemed that nothing had happened. I couldn’t be sure that the letter had even got to mother. I only knew that I had written it, and I could stop trying to make her into someone she was not.
Now the present of her desk told me, as she had never been able to, that she was pleased that writing was my chosen work. I cleaned the desk carefully and found some papers inside ---a photo of my father and a one-page letter, folded [折叠] and refolded many times.
Give me an answer, my letter asks, in any way you choose, mother, you always chose the act that speaks louder than words.
82. The writer began to love her mother’s desk________.
A. after mother died B. before she became a writer
C. when she was a child D. when mother gave it to her
83. The passage shows that ________.
A. Mother was cold on the surface but kind in her heart to her daughter
B. Mother was too serious about everything her daughter had done
C. Mother cared much about her daughter in words
D. Mother wrote to her daughter in careful words
84. The word “gulf” in the passage means _________.
A. deep understanding between the old and the young
B. different ideas between the mother and the daughter
C. free talks between the mother and the daughter
D. part of the sea going far in hand
85. What’s the best title of the passage?

I.听力部分:1---5:BBCCB; 6---10: ABACC; 11---15: CABAA; 16---20: BCBCB
II.语法选择:21---25: CAABC; 26---30: BADCD; 31---35: BABDB; 36---40: BBDBB;
41---45: DABDB
III.
during the past several weeks“在过去的几周内”。
turn up“出现;露面”。
52. 选A。
rose to才正确。
